Pulmonary Clinics of Southern Michigan was started by Dr. Gregg A. Patten in 1981 after he completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan. A native of Grand Rapids, Dr. Patten decided to begin his career at Foote Hospital - now known as Henry Ford Health - in Jackson, Michigan, where he worked part time as he completed his fellowship.
After four years of providing 24/7 on call Critical Care services at Foote Hospital, Dr. Patten asked Dr. Robert D. Albertson to join his practice in 1985.
As the practice continued to grow with the community's pulmonary and critical care needs, Dr. James B. Chauncey was welcomed into the practice in 1987.
In 1989, Drs. Patten and Albertson learned they could help with nighttime breathing issues by using mechanical ventilation to provide assistance to patients with obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep related conditions. They opened a sleep medicine clinic that same year, and together with Foote Hospital they started offering some of the first sleep medicine services available in the nation.
Nine years later, in 1998, Drs. Patten, Albertson, and Chauncey brought in Dr. Timothy R. Murray to assist in their ever-growing practice.
In 2003, the hospital asked for the practice's assistance to establish a long-term acute care hospital to be known as CareLink of Jackson. The practice hired a number of internal medicine hospitalists and advanced practice professionals to treat patients at the new facility. The practice had already begun providing on call, admissions and daily rounding services for patients and physicians at Foote Hospital.

During this period, we integrated advanced practice professionals - nurse practitioners and physician assistants - as we continued to expand our practice and services available to the Jackson community. We are happy to have Emily Killian, NP and Diana Wilson, NP as part of our stellar team.
